Anytime we travel finding a local cigar lounge is a must. Sometimes finding a great cigar lounge is easier said than done. Although we have used social media many times to inquire from our fellow cigar lovers where the best cigar lounges are in a specific area, most of the time we have been unsuccessful with the request.

However, because Bernie and I love supporting local businesses in areas we travel and want to be a great resource for our readers, we thought it would be great to tell you why these are our favorite cigar lounges.

United States

Colorado

Churchill Cigar Lounge – Browns Palace, Denver, Colorado

A few years ago, we went to Denver for business/vacation. Prior to our arrival I had found Churchill Cigar Lounge and we determined it was a must try given that it was in the Historic Browns Palace Hotel, which had been owned by Molly Brown’s husband.

We were in Denver a couple days before we had the opportunity to check out the bar but once we found this place, we didn’t want to leave. In fact, we made sure to go there every night from then on out and, in fact, went there before we headed to the airport.

Churchill Cigar Lounge is a place that has an old school cigar sophistication that one can only appreciate by sitting there and watching the people who come in and out all day. You have your businessman who walks in late afternoon in his suit to enjoy a cigar before calling it a day to the regular who comes in and has his own humidor at the lounge properly secured and humidified to ensure each cigar remains in top smoking condition for him and his friends.

Not only does Churchill’s have a great selection of cigars to choose from but their drink menu is like looking at a food menu and wanting everything on the menu. If you can’t find something to drink on this menu then you definitely are not a drinker. I found a rum that was absolutely amazing and that was my drink of choice the entire time we were there.

As far as the staff, they really do make this place feel like you are in an old school cigar lounge. They treat their patrons like royalty regardless of whether this is their first time or their millionth time in the lounge. The staff made us feel like we had been coming there forever and we were long lost friends. This is the kind of lounge that you hate to leave and can’t wait to go back to in the future. Honestly, any future trips to Denver will be planned around going to Churchill Cigar Lounge.

Florida

PCB Cigar Lounge – Panama City Beach, Florida

If you are looking for a friendly place to hang out with one of the most unique selection of cigars that you have ever seen, PCB Cigar Lounge is your place. We discovered the lounge while on vacation in Panama City Beach. We found the cigar lounge how we usually find all of our cigar hot spots…Google.

We headed over to the lounge to check it out after spending a long relaxing day on the beach. Yes, we had taken our own travel humidor of cigars (never leave home without it) but wanted to see what the local lounge had to offer. Boy did it have a lot to offer!

As soon as we walked into the lounge we were greeted by the owners of PCB, Peter and Rinku Shah. They asked if they could help us and we told that we were in town for vacation and wanted to check out their humidor. They had a very nice and cozy set up for patrons to kick back, smoke cigars, and just chat with their fellow cigar friends. The perfect setting after a long day at work or the beach!

As soon as I walked into the humidor, I thought I had been out in the sun for way too long. There were Arturo Fuente God of Fire boxes everywhere! I had to take a double look because I could not believe what I was seeing. I had never walked into a cigar shop humidor and saw them before…anywhere! I immediately yelled at Bernie and told him what I had found. He could not believe it either!

As we continued to look around the humidor Peter walked in to see if he could help us. That is when the fun REALLY began! We started telling him some of our favorite cigars and it was as if he had secret hiding places everywhere in the store. He started pulling out La Aurora Cien Anos Maduros (which are BEYOND amazing) that he had tucked away as if he knew one day a couple of Tennessee friends would walk thru his door just ready to buy them. We started talking about the God of Fire’s he had in stock, Byron Cigars that we were unfamiliar with at the time but found out quickly they were wonderful to smoke, and so many, many more cigars that the list would just keep going on and on.

In addition to a few box purchases, we bought some single new releases to smoke the next day on the beach. We sat on the beach trying several cigars that we had never tried before knowing that there was no way we could leave Panama City Beach without buying a few more to take home with us. So as soon as we got cleaned up, we headed back to PCB Cigar Lounge to make yet another purchase.

When we left Panama City Beach that Sunday morning, we left with some sun, alcohol, cigars, and best of all, new friends! When Peter gets a really cool box of cigars in or someone special is coming to the shop like Manuel Inoa, Bernie will usually get a text from Peter letting him know what cigars are available or when the next event at the shop is going to be. That is one of the great things about cigars is that they bring friends together.

Missouri

Stanley’s Cigar Lounge – St. Louis, Missouri

Stanley’s Cigar Lounge was a find for us in Downtown St. Louis that we still talk about today. This is one of those places that we found online but really wasn’t sure what to expect. The history dates back to 1876 when it was an actual cigar company. The history behind the lounge was interesting, which made us want to check this place out even more. We went to St. Louis for the St. Louis Cardinals Missouri Tigers promotion game. As if I wasn’t excited enough about showing Bernie one of my favorite cities, I was super excited about going to see my St. Louis Cardinals play.

We decide to go check out Stanley’s to have a drink and a cigar before the game. We walk into the bar and there standing proudly is a Cigar Indian wearing a St. Louis Cardinals jersey. We knew at that very moment we weren’t leaving Stanley’s anytime soon.

Stanley’s is like a version of Cheers only better! We had been there just a few minutes and it felt like home. The lounge is classy yet inviting! You can feel comfortable showing up in shorts and a jersey before the baseball game, which I did, or dressed to the nines for date night. It is a place you can sit and talk sports with your friends or business with a client.

The staff was amazing and made us feel like they knew us. The humidor had a great selection of cigars and some we were not even familiar with at the time. One particular cigar was by a local St. Louis Company Table 36 and was called “The Peacemaker”. We were so impressed with the cigar that we bought a box. It was not only a great cigar, but we loved the unusual foot of the cigar and loved that the cigar size was called “The Judge”. We had to take it back to Tennessee with us to show it off and we did!

Nevada

Casa Fuente – Las Vegas

If you want the most amazing cigars to go with a Mojito like you have never had before, then Casa Fuente at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas is the place to go! This is one of our favorite places in Las Vegas! Not only can you watch basketball games during March Madness or Bowl Games during football season, but you can do it all while smoking amazing cigars, enjoying some cool drinks, and being taken care of by some great staff!

The great thing about Casa Fuente is that you will see Fuente cigars in their humidor you probably have never seen before. They definitely have a great selection of cigars and the prices vary so there is a price point for everyone.

An interesting story about the first time we went to Casa Fuente. We were sitting at the bar drinking Mojitos and I was smoking a Fuente Fuente Opus X Lost City. I took a picture of the cigar with the drink and posted it on Facebook and Twitter tagging Casa Fuente. I finish the cigar and Bernie says go into the humidor and get another cigar. I walk into the humidor and start looking at all the cigars (Yes, I was like a kid in a candy store!). As I look around one of the staff walks into the humidor behind me and said, “Is this you?” while holding up his phone. On the phone was Casa Fuente’s Twitter page with my picture. I replied “Yes”, and he said where did you get that cigar? I told him that we lived in Nashville, Tennessee and that we had bought a box at one of the local shops we frequent. He was completely impressed and said that he had not seen a Lost City in a very long time.

One of the things that Bernie and I love about cigars is that they are always a conversation starter.  I like to tell this story because what I realized in that moment is that this guy works in the one of the coolest cigar bars in the world around cigars that most people will never see let alone smoke and yet could still be impressed by a cigar that he had rarely seen. The excitement that he seemed to experience in that moment was as if he was smoking the cigar himself. It’s the appreciation ever cigar smoker has to a great cigar.

Now you are probably thinking that you can get a Mojito anywhere so what’s so special about the ones at Casa Fuente. Well, have you ever had a Tangerine Mojito before? Neither had we. Tangerine Mojito’s, in our opinion, is on another level. Pair the Tangerine Mojito with their Casa Fuente House Cigar and you will think you have died and gone to Heaven. We could drink and smoke them all day long and never get tired.

Oregon

El Gaucho Cigar Lounge – Portland, Oregon

If you have never been to Portland before, we want to prepare you for what we discovered during our trip. Because we knew that smoking marijuana was legal and you could not walk thru the park without someone smoking a joint, we thought smoking a cigar would be a breeze. Boy were we wrong.

The fact is after finding a cigar store in Portland, we were told that smoking a cigar in public would get you fined by the police before smoking a joint. To us that is just one screwed up law but because we do our best to obey all laws when we travel, we inquired if there were any places to smoke in Downtown Portland. Unfortunately, we were told there are very few except for a place not far from there called El Gaucho Cigar Lounge.

Now El Gaucho Cigar Lounge is inside the El Gaucho Restaurant and is not very big with limited seating, so we advise you get there as soon as they open at 5:00 p.m. We got there a couple minutes after they opened and secured the last two (2) seats in the lounge. The lounge had a few tables in the back of the room that allowed for friends to hangout and comfortable lounge chairs in front of the tv to allow for individuals to kick back and relax.

As we mentioned, it is not a large lounge but as they say size doesn’t matter when it comes to El Gaucho Cigar Lounge. Bernie and I have been to numerous cigar lounges over the years and honestly, we were taken care of better at this lounge than most lounges we have ever been to before. Drink orders were taken fast and if you need a cutter or lighter the waitress or waiter always has one on hand. The lounge is very popular with local business crowd, so they take care of their patrons.

Although it was obvious we were not locals, Bernie and I were treated as if we were there every day. We could not have asked for a better experience and honestly wish we would have been able to spend more time there. Unfortunately, due to other obligations we were unable to eat at the restaurant, but the menu looked great and it was extremely busy the entire time we were there. If you have an opportunity to eat there, please do and let us know about your experience.

Tennessee

Burns Tobacconist – Chattanooga, Tennessee

If you are ever in Chattanooga Burns Tobacconist is the place to go to have a cigar.

You will find a variety of people in the shop at any given time of day.  Upon arriving at Burns, you will find an outdoor deck area at the side of the shop to unwind after a long day. Inside there are bar stools and old school barber shop chairs to kick back while watching tv in the shop area.

If you are looking for a little gaming action, Burns has a private area upstairs with large comfy chairs, big screen TV’s to watch all your favorite games, and a pool table. Again, memberships are available if you are interested in making Burns a permanent getaway.

The humidor has a large selections of cigars with a variety of options. Whether you are an experienced cigar smoker or novice you will be able to find something that fits your taste. Burns also gets cigars that you may not see at other cigar lounges around. Every year special TAA Cigars come out by various cigar companies. However, the reason you do not see them at your local cigar store is that you must be a TAA Member to sell those cigars.

Burns will ship you cigars so if you find a cigar you love that your local cigar shop does not have or if you are one of the unfortunate souls who lives up North in a state that has an excessive tobacco tax, ask about having your cigars shipped to you in the future. Who doesn’t love being able to brag to their friends about the unique cigars they are getting at such a great price!

Another plus about Burns is that they allow you to bring liquor onto the premises as they do not have a liquor license. This is great if you know you are going to be there for a long period of time or meeting colleagues for a late afternoon business meeting. However, if you do not have time to grab a bottle of your favorite spirits, beer is available for purchase.
