So, when we heard that the NFL Draft was coming to Nashville, Bernie and I knew there was no way we could miss this party. This was going to be the party to end all parties and FREE makes it even that much better! We planned to take off work on Thursday and Friday to make sure we didn’t miss a thing. Unfortunately, Bernie had a meeting come up that he could not get out of so, of course, being the perfect wife, I am I told him I was going to the NFL Draft without him.
Night Before the Draft
On Wednesday night I walked around Downtown Nashville taking in the entire atmosphere. There were not a lot of people around just yet, but it was the calm before the NFL storm. You could already feel the energy and I knew it was going to be an amazing weekend!
Draft Day
On Thursday morning I woke up early excited about the next three (3) days! I threw on some clothes, grabbed one of my favorite cigars a Cuban Trinidad, and poured myself a cup of coffee with a little rum (I mean you do not start the NFL Draft off which just coffee. A shot of liquor is required.). I took off out the door, lit my cigar, and started enjoying the day. The streets were empty except for a few workers roaming around putting on the final touches before the big show that night.
ESPN
I noticed a few people hanging out at the bottom of Rock Bottom. As I approached, I realized it was ESPN doing a live broadcast. Ok time to get this party started and get on tv. I texted Bernie to let him know what I was up to saddened he was not there with me reliving our first Super Bowl experience when we got on ESPN but excited that this was how I was starting off the day. Sure enough I got on ESPN! It was so much fun hanging out with other football fans who only cared about having fun and enjoying the moment.
Time to Get Ready for the Party
After ESPN it was time to head back to the condo to get dressed and prepare for the biggest party in Nashville. So, what does a girl wear to the biggest party in Nashville? Well, if you’re this girl you wear the best thing in your closet…a Tennessee Titans Vince Young #10 Jersey, shorts, and tennis shoes. I mean seriously did you think I was one of those women that gets all decked out to attend a football party. Please…those women get on my nerves.
If You Cannot Stand to Get a Little Beer On You Then This Party is Not for You
In fact, let’s talk about some of those women. A woman got mad because she accused me of getting beer on her. I looked at her, told her to get over it, and that if she was worried about beer being spilt on her she was at the wrong event. The crowd was packed in like sardines and you could not move in the crowd. You were going to get beer on you regardless if you wanted it or not. It is the largest party in Nashville, and you are complaining about getting beer spilt on you. Get out of my City!!!!
Let Us Get This Party Started
Now back to the NFL Draft. So around 6:00 p.m. Bernie had a change in his schedule and headed to Nashville. I was out on the street ready to party with tens of hundreds of thousands of my fellow football fans. As Roger Goodell opened the 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville, Bernie calls me from the road. I could hardly hear him, but he called to hear me yell my favorite line from the movie “Draft Day”. As Roger Goodell came onto stage to open the 2019 NFL Draft, I yelled my favorite line from the movie Roger Goodell “you pancake eating motherfucker”. After hearing me yell at Roger Goodell something I had vowed to do from the moment I heard the draft was coming to Nashville, Bernie resumed his travels to Nashville. I enjoyed the rest of the evening soaking up what would be an amazing night.
Let Us Do it All Again and Then Some
The next day was guaranteed to be a fun and exciting second day of the NFL Draft. Bernie and I had tickets to attend the Tennessee Titans Season Ticket Holder Event at the Country Music Hall of Fame. The event was beyond anything we could have imagined! The Titans treated us like royalty, and we had the pleasure of seeing many past Titans players but most exciting was that our first-round draft pick Jeffery Simmons, DT, Mississippi State was introduced to the room full of fans.
The rest of the afternoon we went to the NFL Experience. The NFL Experience is a must see must experience event because it is not just designed for kids, but it is also designed for the kid at heart, which includes Bernie and me. There are opportunities to get pictures taken, enter contests, throw a football, etc. Anything someone ever wanted to experience who dreamed of being a professional football player but never had the opportunity.
After the NFL Experience we headed over to board the General Jackson for another party with the Tennessee Titans Draft Party. After once again being wined and dined by the Tennessee Titans, we headed back home to get a little sleep before it was time to finish off 2019 Draft weekend experience.
Last Day to Party – Let Us Make it Memorable
Saturday started early and went late as we spent most of the day hanging out downtown partying with tens of thousands of people, we had never met but had one thing in common…we loved football! After the draft ended on Saturday, we had one last fun experience which was getting almost front row in the Dierks Bentley concert to end the weekend.
Final Thoughts
The 2019 Draft weekend was even more than we could have even imagined! The weekend was full of fun and experiences we will never forget. The NFL Draft was a prime example of having fun without spending a lot of money. The one thing we hope everyone will take away from our experiences is that it does not have to cost a lot of money to have fun. Fun can be made on your own without lots of money!
